Greater Manchester sits on the best road junction in the country for this work. The M60 ring collects every borough, the M62 runs east and west, and the M6 goes the length of Britain. That geography is the reason a firm based here can sensibly take a Bolton house to Cornwall or bring a Surrey family north without it being an adventure.
What actually changes on a long move is the planning. Driver hours are regulated, so a run past a certain distance either needs a second driver or an overnight stop. A full load leaving Wigan on a Thursday morning cannot be unloaded in Glasgow that afternoon and also be back for a Friday job — so the vehicle gets committed properly rather than squeezed.
There is also the question of whose load is on the lorry. A dedicated vehicle takes only your belongings, goes straight there, and costs what a whole lorry costs. A shared load fills the vehicle with several moves going the same direction and splits the cost, at the price of a schedule that suits the route. Neither is better. They are different trades, and we will say plainly which one your move is suited to.

Our busiest long run, and mostly job-driven. The variable is not the motorway, it is the other end — London loading restrictions, permit bays and narrow terraces make the delivery day longer than the driving day.

Over Shap and up to the central belt. Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling and the Borders. Weather genuinely matters on this one in winter, and we plan the run rather than chance it.

Birmingham and the Black Country, Shrewsbury, and along the North Wales coast. Short enough to be a single-day job in most cases, long enough that vehicle choice matters.

Bristol, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. The far end of this one is slow going regardless of what the map says, and we build that into the plan rather than the invoice.

A good share of our long-distance work is people moving here — priced out of the South, coming home, or following a job north. We collect from anywhere in the UK and deliver into the county.
Dedicated load
Collection and delivery on dates you choose, the same crew at both ends where the distance allows, and nothing else on the lorry. The right answer when the dates are fixed, the property is large, or you simply want it done and finished.
Shared load
Your belongings travel with other moves heading the same way, inventoried and kept separate within the vehicle. Better value, and the schedule follows the route rather than a date you picked. Common on the London and Scotland runs.

They stay loaded and secured in the vehicle, which is kept at a secure location — not parked on a street. Where a job needs a longer gap between collection and delivery, the load goes into containerised storage instead.
