The phrase "man and van" has been doing a lot of heavy lifting in this trade for years, and it covers everything from a proper two-hander with insurance to somebody's cousin with a Transit and an hour spare. Worth knowing which you are getting.
Ours is the removals operation in a smaller vehicle. A driver and a mate, blankets and straps in the back, the same goods in transit cover as a full house move, and the same habit of writing down the access at both ends before turning up. The difference is the size of the van and the size of the bill — not the standard of the work.
It is the right answer more often than people think. City-centre studios in Manchester and Salford, student moves around Fallowfield and the Salford campus, flat-shares splitting up in Chorlton, someone moving out of a parent's house in Bolton. All of those fit in a van, and paying for a lorry that leaves half empty serves nobody.
Where it stops being the right answer is a full family home. If you are moving a three-bed with a loaded loft, the house removals service is cheaper in the end than three trips in something too small. We will tell you which side of that line you are on when we look at the job.
How we price it
On the job, not on a stopwatch. We want to know how much there is, how far it is going, and what the access is like at both ends — stairs, lifts, parking. Send a short video of the rooms and we can quote from that without anyone visiting. What you are quoted is what you pay, unless the load changes.

Is it really one man, or two?
A driver and a mate, as standard. One person cannot safely carry a wardrobe down a staircase, and pretending otherwise is how furniture and backs get damaged. If your load genuinely is a few boxes, say so and we will scale it.
Will you help carry, or just drive?
Carry, load, secure and unload. It is a removals service in a smaller vehicle, not a van hire with a driver attached.
Can you do a same-week job?
Often, yes. Man-and-van work is where we keep the most flexibility, precisely because it tends to come up at short notice. Ask, even if your timing is tight.
What if it turns out I have more than I thought?
Tell us before the day and we will send the right vehicle. If it only becomes obvious on the day, the options are a second run or rebooking with a bigger van — both of which cost more than getting it right up front. A quick video walk-round avoids nearly all of this.
Do you cover the outer boroughs, or just central Manchester?
All ten boroughs. Wigan, Leigh and the Saddleworth side included — the vehicle is smaller but the coverage is the same as everything else we do.
Can you take a few things to the tip while you are at it?
We can take away what you are not keeping and dispose of it responsibly as part of the job. Flag it in advance so the van is loaded in the right order.
